IQNA – Registration for the Ramadan Umrah pilgrimage began in Iran on Wednesday, February 20, 2025, according to the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

Pilgrims at Mecca Grand Mosque

Announcing this, Ali Akbar Rezaei, the organization’s deputy, said those willing to make the pilgrimage can register their name online via the organization’s website.

He noted that the dispatching of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Umrah will start on March 5.

The pilgrims will be sent to the Holy Land via 16 airports in the country, the official stated.

Rezaei put Iran’s quota for Umrah in the holy month of Ramadan at 36,952 pilgrims.

The holy month is predicted to begin on the first day of March this year.

He did not say how long the pilgrimage will last or how many days the pilgrim will stay in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

Considering that this year's Ramadan Umrah coincides with the Nowruz holidays, marking the beginning of the new Iranian calendar year, it is certain that there will be more enthusiasm in the country for the pilgrimage.

Figures show that some 5.7 million people are on a waiting list for travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, a pilgrimage to Islam’s two holiest sites in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca and Medina which can be undertaken at any time of year.

Umrah differs from Hajj in that the latter is a lengthier visit which is done once a year and performed once in a lifetime by able-bodied Muslims who can afford it.
